Aaron Summers is a self taught artist who has lived in Colorado his entire life. He is an accomplished skier and rock climber and has always enjoyed a connection with the great outdoors of the American west. Summers began a college career majoring in geology but soon realized that he was not suited for academics. He spent some time as a hiking guide, and also worked for a couple of years for the forest service. Summers loved the solitude of being alone in the wilderness and it was during this time that he began to sketch. At first he drew simple landscapes, but he also experimented with sketches of shapes and textures that were both real and imagined.
Like many artists, Summers' natural creativity was awakened almost by accident. From these first simple sketches made to pass the time, he has developed a mature painting style that is still connected to the Colorado wilderness. In a very unique way, Summers' imagination transforms the inspiration he receives from nature into abstract expressions. His paintings have an organic feeling but do not represent nature directly. Rather, his abstract work portrays strength in its simplicity that is reinforced by linear symmetry and the balance of contrasting shapes. Summers' palette of colors draws from the rock, the wood, the soil, the sky, and the sun that have surrounded him his entire life. His paintings are strong and powerful, yet they also have a sense of peaceful stability that pleases the eye and the mind. These days Summers is taking some formal art classes to help expand his work. He has found his passion, will never lose his connection to the great outdoors, and feels that this just the beginning of his new artistic path.
