The Animal Alphabet was inspired by Tara's love for typography, alliteration, and anthropomorphized animals, particularly in the works of Dr. Seuss.

When she was younger, Tara Friel Swinford wanted nothing more than to live in an earlier era, when ballroom dancing, formal tea parties, tall ships, and possibly dragons were more en vogue. Years passed. Nobody invented a suitable time machine for her to use. She discovered that her talents leaned more toward writing and illustrating than applied sciences, so she chose not to invent the time machine for herself.
Today, Tara lives in Richmond, Virginia with her high-school sweetheart turned husband, Charlie, and their cats, Loki, Khepri, and Nefertiti. They dance foxtrot and quickstep, have tea parties with china, and collect dragons (the cats resent the dancing, but are okay with everything else). Tara has decided that living in this era isn’t so bad after all.
