Matthew Daniels was born in Buffalo, New York in 1963. He has lived in New York City for over thirty years and is proud to be a real New Yorker. Over the many years, Daniel’s has developed a true love relationship with one of the greatest cities in the world. After receiving his degree in Applied Arts, he began to develop a unique and personal approach to painting as he created images in a neo-realistic photographic style. Daniel’s calls his latest series of paintings ‘New York Portraits’. These urban images express his fascination for the city. There is a decorative flavor to his cityscapes, and a soft patina of subdued tones, that creates a feeling of nostalgia for a different era. Light dominates the compositions and a dense pattern of brushstrokes provides the sense of the vibrant vitality in the dynamic metropolis. He has currently left New York to be with his wife who is a designer in Paris. Europe is now the market where his artworks are the most successful. Still, at least five times a year Daniel’s is compelled to return to his home in midtown Manhattan, where he gathers new inspiration for his art from the energy in his beloved city.
