In love with the human form, she would take magazines and draw the person on the cover. &#8220;I wanted to capture not only their likeness but their character, what made them real.&#8221; She loved the old masters, such as Rembrandt and aspired to be like them. At age 11 her family moved to San Francisco; she fell in love with that city instantly. Everything about it caught her eye, the energy, the culture, the creativity. It was full of movement and life that she had never experienced before. &#8220;It just made me want to create more; it just opened my eyes to so many new things.&#8221; Edmunds attended the Academy of Art University in San Francisco where she received a Bachelor&#8217;s degree in Fine Art.<br style="font-family: verdana, helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;" /><br />She described college as a positive experience and had one truly amazing teacher when attending the university that changed her art forever. &#8220;I was working on a painting, it was just the under painting. I really liked it but felt I had to do more to it, like I had been trained to do. My teacher told me if you like then it&#8217;s done. Just that simple! I will always love him for that he freed my mind that day and has forever made me a better painter.&#8221; After school Edmunds moved to Arizona where she has worked in the art field for years. This allowed her to explore various styles of art. &#8220;I never thought I would paint abstract paintings but I love how free you can be, it&#8217;s all about the movement and color. Whether its abstracts or figurative and everything in between, I just want to provoke an emotion with my art to take the viewer to another place.&#8221;&#160;<br style="font-family: verdana, helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;" /><br />Edmunds resides in Phoenix, AZ with her cat, Soba Noodle.

She is a self-taught artist with Midwestern sensibilities and a sophisticated eye for style. Her love for design and passion for all things beautiful has taken her from her global travels to today.&#160; Dawn is founder of Notre Monde, the elegant furniture company, more than 15 years ago. While designing distinctive furniture, lighting and home accessories, artist Dawn Sweitzer enliven traditional techniques with fresh ideas of global origin. Dawn draws her inspiration not only from extensive European travels, but also her experience from making a home in Russia and Western Europe before settling in Columbus, Ohio. Indeed, the Notre Monde line is a direct expression of the artists&#8217; cheerful, ongoing immersion into various cultures. Motifs and methods used in her products show their particular interest in the art and design of Eastern and Western Europe, but perhaps even more important, her respect for ways in which other communities embrace the good life. The Notre Monde studio is a dynamic combination of approaches.&#160; Dawn has the fanciful stylistic intuition of an aesthete, though one firmly grounded in the disciplines of mural painting and contemporary Art and Design. Melding luxury with practicality, in the spirit of decorative objects from 18th century Europe to present day.</div><div><br /></div><div>Artist&#8217;s Statement -</div><div>Your environment should be luxurious&#8212;filled with the true beauty of the people and things that inspire you. I find that I am inspired by such things around me&#8212;whether it&#8217;s a song, a book, a sound, a shadow, the texture of pealing paint, a dream or the ones I love&#8212;I try to only select the things that speak directly to my soul. If I am successful in doing this I feel my work will be authentic. I feel my work comes from a truth. Truth has an element of revelation about it. If something is true, it does more than strike one as merely being so. As one of my favorite artists Lucian Freud has said, &#8220;What do I ask of a painting? I ask it to astonish, disturb, seduce, convince.&#8221; I feel if one or more of these emotions are present when you view art, mission accomplished.</div>

However, his real creative influences have been through travel. Working in the home furnishings industry in product design and overseeing product development for a number of retail companies allowed him to travel all&#160;through Europe, South America and Asia. The culture, architecture and landscape of those&#160;diverse parts of the world have influenced both his approach as well as the final results of&#160;the work.
